Genji Monogatari: The Maiden

The garden, for
Hegel, had too much
of nature in it. Rich
autumn colors, spring
water singing in the
distance over rocks
designed to enhance
its music. An excess
of seasonality: that's
how he saw it. His
preference was for
some static stones
with raked pebbles
swirling round
them. The rhythm of
it, no sign of melody.
